While skating since age five on both figure skates and hockey it was around 2002 that I gave speed skating a try based on encouragement from Patty, I will never forget my first lap on the skates hanging on to the dasher board wondering how they do it and make it look so effortless, as with anything with patience and practice and a lot of encouragement I quickly grew to love the sport, having then skated in a host of competitions ranging from Wisconsin State Championships , Badger state games , and other local meets even getting the chance to skate numerous long track events with Patty at the Pettit National ice center, I now find enjoyment coaching with my amazing assistant coaches Marty and Patty, without them it would be impossible , we work really well together as a team teaching skaters of all ages to love the sport.
Growing up with a strong Dutch heritage, I have always enjoyed ice skating. I was thrilled to hear we had a speed skating club in our area and joined in 1999. I now help newer skaters learn the basics of this great sport. My other interests include hiking, biking and kayaking; highlights being an epic bike trip across America, kayaking around Lake Superior and hiking the John Muir Trail with my adventure partner/husband Joe.
Marty Hannemann has skated and coached with the Central Wisconsin Club since 2001. He devotes most of his coaching time to the new skaters and younger Club members. Marty also competes in inline skating, is an avid skier and cyclist, and an experenced marathon runner.
